Brookfield Zoo in the Chicago area
This zoo is so lush and beautiful and spread over 200 acres of land! All this beautiful land has been recognized worldwide for its cage less displays and creative displays. The Brookfield Zoo has had so many years to perfect its worldwide appeal. The Brookfield Zoo was founded in 1934 and has been nothing, but an asset to Chicago. The Brookfield Zoo is located at 1st Avenue and 31st Street, Brookfield, IL; the phone number is 708-688-8000. The best way to get to the Brookfield Zoo is to take the Metra Rail Burlington Northern line that runs from the Union Station to downtown, the Zoo Stop. From there just walk to blocks northeast and you will find yourself at the Brookfield Zoo. If you decide to drive there is parking for $8 for non members and for members the parking is $2. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that for vans or buses the parking fee is $10.75. Also, if you do decided to drive here is a little shortcut I know of. Instead of following all those confusing signs that tells you to park at the main entrance, just keeping going till you hit First Avenue to Ridgewood Road. Then make a right turn and follow the signs till you get to the zoo's south parking area. This parking area allows you to get into the park a lot quicker. The only downside to this parking lot is that it is small and so it fills up quickly. If you want to park there you have to get there a little earlier. The zoo is open weekdays 10:00 am to 5:00pm and weekends from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The Brookfield Zoo is open every single day of the year! General admission for adults ages 12-64 is $10, seniors $6 and children ages 3-11 $6; children who are ages 2 and under get in for free! If you would like to experience some more freebies then go to the zoo on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October through February. Also, during January and February admission is free on Saturdays and Sundays. So, if you are trying to stay within a certain budget, this is the way to go. Brookfield Zoo Featured Exhibits In addition to being able to walk around 200 acres of beauty there are exhibits that you and your kids can experience. A few to name of are Wolf Woods, Living Coast, Tropic World, Feathers and Scales, Fragila Kingdom, Habitat Africa and more. Overall the zoo concentrates on creative education that is why they have so many different exhibits to see. kids will even get to go to a workshop that will teach them what it takes to run a zoo, this workshop is the favorite of many kids because it is so hands on.
