Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago
The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago may not sound like the most exciting museum to see, but it really is. Not only is it very educational, but there are fun activities for adults and children to participate in. The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago opened in 1933 and to date is known as the United States largest science museum! The address to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is 57th Street and Lakeshore Drive; the phone number is 773-684-1414. I cannot give you exact directions, but here are some directions that will point you in the right direction. If you take the Hyde Park Express #2 you will go south to 57th Street and Stony Island, the museum will be one block away from that point. If you take the Jackson Park Express #6 you will go south to 56th Street, the museum will be one block away. If you take Stony Island Express #28, you will go south to 56th and Hyde Park Blvd and the museum will be just one block south. If you decide to drive your own vehicle there is parking available in the museum's underground parking structure. The Museum of Science and Industry is open Monday-Saturday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday from 11:00 and to 4:00 pm. The museum is closed on Christmas Day. General admission for the adults is $11, for kids $7.00 and for seniors is $9.50. To see the other admission rates just go to the website. There are so many exhibits to see at the Museum of Science and Industry that I cannot list them all. The museum has over 35,000 artifacts to see and learn about. In addition to all those artifacts the museum has many exhibits to tour as well. I will list the one's that seem most fun, even though I know all of them are fun. Museum of Science and Industry Exhibits The U-505 Submarine is not a replica! This is the real deal, the real German submarine that was used in battle during World War II. First, you will only get to see a close up view of the submarine, but after the guide finishes telling you about the history of the submarine you will get to explore the inside of it! The Omnimax Theater is unlike any other theater out there. This theater is five stories tall and wraps around the whole room for a crazy virtual reality effect! If your kids are really young and you take them to see a dynamic, active kind of a film it might freak them out a bit. Be sure to check what is playing before you take them. ToyMaker 3000 will introduce your kids to the world of robots! Who would have ever thought robots could make toys? Kids will enjoy getting to see the robots work a toy factory. |
