The Field Museum of Natural History
If you would like to stroll in a museum that is on a lakefront base surrounded by the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium, than may I recommend the Field Museum of Natural History? The Field Museum of Natural History was built in 1921 and continually attracts large amounts of visitors every year. Way back in September 16, 1893 the first version of this museum was called the Columbian Museum of Chicago. It was not until 1905 was the museum changed to The Field Museum of Natural History. The museum was named after the great Marshall Field and then it was moved to its current water front location. The Field Museum of Natural History is open everyday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and they let their last group of tourist in at 4:00pm. The Field Museum of Natural History is closed on Christmas day. I would recommend spending the whole day there if possible, because the all day parking rate is $15. The earlier you arrive the better, because the parking spaces do fill up pretty quickly in the morning. During Memorial Day to Labor Day, The Field Museum of Natural History has extended hours of operation from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some of the permanent/ current exhibits are: Rocks and Fossils

The Field Museum of Natural History has the greatest and largest collection of specimens! This museum has over 20 million different specimens to see and learn about. I tell you your children will walk away from here much more educated because of all there is to see here. The exhibits include historical artifacts, biological artifacts, natural artifacts and anthropological artifacts. Above I listed more of the permanent exhibits, below are some of the temporary exhibits you can see upon your visit. Evolving Planet: is supposed to cover over "4 billion years "of life on Earth and how it has evolved into what earth is now. The kids will get to see land and seascapes, fossils, displays and a dinosaur hall. Sue: growing up kids always seem to be mesmerized by the Tyrannosaurus Rex! Well, if they are in that obsessed stage than they will loose their minds over this exhibit; that hosts the fossils of these great dinosaurs. Underground Adventure: is great for little one's who still enjoy playing around in the mud! Now instead of just playing in the mud they can learn what lies underneath the surface of soil!
